Moving Day

When we moved from our house in Krum I remember my dad pulling up in what seemed like an 18-wheeler. It probably wasn't but I was only 8. My mom had packed up all the cheap moving boxes and we were ready to go. I was really, really excited, but sad at the same time. There were twins named Josh and Jason who called me shortly after we moved. They said they missed me. Now as a mom I think that's weird that these 2nd grade boys were calling me to say that, but whatever.
I was thankful we had to finish the softball season in Krum, so we had to travel back and forth for the games. Alec recently had basketball games for summer league in Krum, so I was able to drive by my old house, my old baseball field, and he even played a game in my old gym! Krum has grown up a lot. There's even a Sonic! Yesssssssssss. Taj was so excited to see my old house. He said, "You can have GOATS here?!?!?!" He thought it was amazing that people had animals living on their land.
Driving thru there it made me miss those days. I love the small town feel...

Folgers Crystals

I have been raised LDS since birth. Part of the LDS religion is following the "Word of Wisdom" which includes not drinking coffee or tea. So, obviously I never had a Nespresso machine in my home. However, my grandma drank coffee. She lived in Louisiana, but everytime she'd visit she would buy the green container of Folgers Coffee. I don't know what the green container meant- caffienated? Decaf? Who knows. I remember the smell of coffee always made me think of her... still does.

Songs trigger memories

I was thinking about weird memories from when I was little and I remembered how I was a weird kid. (And now a weird adult.) I have this memory of walking thru our house that was being built- I was like 5- and the construction workers were listening to a little white radio. The song playing made me start crying. I don't know why. I swear I had PMS in kindergarten! The sing was "The One That You Love" by Air Supply.

That got me thinking about other songs that I'll hear and it totally reminds me of a certain time in particular. Such as Garth Brook's "Shameless." 10th grade... David (A senior who totally liked me but wouldn't admit it because I was a sophmore and my sister was his age.) and another guy- Jodi Something- had driven their trucks all over the school yard, so as punishment they had to fill the tracks in with dirt, etc... He was out working on the yard one day while I was walking from the field house to the main school. I stopped to talk to him and "Shameless" was playing on his truck radio. I don't know why I remember that..

"Never Tear Us Apart" by INXS was 7th grade homecoming. I "went with" Joey. He gave me a huge mum. (It's a Texas-thing. Go here to see what I'm talking about.) When the game was over Brandon Pannell's mom picked a group of us up in her little sports car. I ended up sitting on Joey's lap in the front seat. (Safe- I know.) Anyway.... "Never Tear Us Apart" was playin' on the radio.

"Groove is in the Heart" by Dee-Lite was playing like every nite I snuck out. I guess it was way popular during 9th grade. I remember it playing while we stopped at a a gas station to buy some Skittles. Hmmm....
9th grade again, especially the Valentine's Day dance. I requested "One More Try" by Timmy T., so I could dance with Brandon to it. Instead Allison asked him to dance. I was so pissed. Anyway... I didn't get to dance with him on the song I requested. But I did dance with him to "I'll Give All My Love To You" by Keith Sweat- quite possibly the ugliest singer ever.

"18 & Life" by Skid Row was totally 10th grade. I had the hots for Sebastian Bach- the lead singer. My friend, Marlena, gave me a Skid Row poster for my room so I could lust. :)

And then the whole Enya cd makes me think of the time after my divorce when Sei and I found each other. I listened to it all the time and pictured myself walking down the aisle to "Only Time." I didn't walk down the aisle to this song, but I did walk down the aisle to Seiuli. :) YAY!
I tried to embed the songs in this post and it was not working. I don't know why. :(

What songs bring up memories for you??

School clothes shopping

When I was younger one of the things I looked forward to a lot was school clothes shopping! I loved going to the outlet malls here you could find wholesale clothing of all the top 1980's brands like Guess? and E-Sprit. I was stylin'!! I can remember getting this periwinkle colored E-Sprit shirt and wearing it with my new Guess? denim skirt to school in the 6th grade. It's funny how you can remember certain outfits at certain times. I also had an orange E-sprit shirt. E-Sprit was the bomb.com back then!!

Tile + Barstools = BAD

This didn't happen very long ago, but I still want to write about it. Livie was maybe a year old and we were visiting my parents. Their home was up for sale. They had a beautiful home with porcelain tile, and other expensive amenities. Well, my mom was trying to have a tile replaced because it was cracked. Come to find out, that specific tile was no longer sold. So, it was a huge ordeal designing something on the floor with other tile so they didn't have to replace ALL the tile, just a select few. My mom had these heavy, wood barstools in her kitchen- right about Liv's height. Can you see where this is going? The tile was almost all replaced when Liv knocked the barstool over and CRACK!!! She cracked ANOTHER tile that was not in the plan to be replaced. My mom started crying... then trying to figure out how to make that tile fit in. It all ended well. Their home sold and they now own another beautiful home, with tile and the same barstools. Hmmm....

Ugh. Fat sucks

I'm doing Atkins. Yes. Again. I am so tired of battling my weight. I wish I would just come to terms with my squishier body. I think a lot of my problem is my mom was always a psycho about being thin. She worked out a like a maniac (still does). She was out running in the Texas heat in the middle June, 9 months pregnant, because she wanted to stay thin. I feel like I'm constantly trying to find the "quick fix" or perfect diet pills, but nothing has seemed to work for me besides Atkins. I'm impatient and it's the only thing that delivers fast results. Unfortunately I always end up gaining it all back. You'd think I'd catch on...

Disney Channel

Remember when VCRs first came out? They were big, bulky and heavy- not the cool, sleek things you see now at Circuit City. We had one and LOVED it. We'd record movies off the Disney Channel. It was funny because back the Disney Channel cost a lot extra to have, so we only had it when it was free for a week. So, all the movies we recorded that week had a moving banner across the bottom of the screen that said something like "We hope you are enjoying your free trial of the Disney Channel. Call 1-800-DISNEY to order now!" I can specifically remember our Mary Poppins recording having that across the bottom! lol

Aerobics

For as far back as I can remember my mom has been an aerobic instructor. I was probably 4 or 5 when she first got involved with Jackie Sorenson aerobic instructing. She was affiliated with Jackie Sorenson for years and then eventually went off on her own. She's really good at it and you can tell she enjoys it. I think that's part of the reason I love so many genres of music. My mom would (and still does) make her own aerobic mix tapes. So I got to hear so many different songs, singers, etc... and LOVED it! My fave mix tape of her's was "Summer Heat"- a mix of songs all having to do with the summer or heat. Whenever I lived out of town and would come visit she'd always use my fave tape as a "welcome back." Of course, my mom always taught me that diet and exercise is best for your body, but if I need a extra boost I'm not afraid to check out and try different weight loss pills.

Car insurance

My oldest is 14 and I just started to teach him how to back the car out of the driveway. I can't believe in 2 short years he will be a licensed driver! I am worried about being able to afford the car insurance prices that accompany a teenage driver! I've already discussed it with Tristan and he agrees that whe he can drive he will get a job to help pay for his insurance. I think that's fair and will hopefully make him a more careful, aware driver.

Cameras

Growing up we always had a camera that either printed the photo right out or a camera that used film. I hate how 1/2 the pics we took ended up not looking that great. Digital cameras are awesome because you can see the pics instantly, decide what pics you like and save them to memory sticks or card or just delete the ugly ones. Perfect! It's funny because back then we didn't know any different, but today there is no way you could get me to use a camera that needs film!!
